Prospects Spencer Gill Position(s): Defence Realistic Potential Rating (1-10): 5.0D Draft Year: 2024 Fantasy Summary Raw, athletic blue-liner with astoundiing offensive metrics backed by a booming shot. Defence has and should continue to improve. Has upside as a second-pair, two-way defenseman. Observations July 2025 – Gill skated with the Rimouski Oceanic in his third QMJHL season, and saw a step forward in his defensive ability. He scored six goals and added 29 assists for 35 points in 51 games, but saw his plus-eight climb to a plus-thirty this year. The Oceanic gave up 236 goals against in 2023-2024 and in 2024-2025 they allowed just 178. That of course does not mean that that is all attributable to Gill himself, but he certainly contributed. Gill could be a decent, middle-four defenseman at the NHL level if his development arc continues. He likely will be more of a two-way defenseman, but will only be able to stick if his defensive abilities continue to evolve. He will skate what is likely to be his final QMJHL season with Blainville-Boisbriand in 2025-2026, and look to graduate to the AHL thereafter. Alex Wyatt September 2024 – The Philadelphia Flyers signed Gill to a three-year, entry-level contract. Mark Henry June 2024 – Gill was drafted 59th overall by the Flyers. Pat Quinn April 2024 – Spencer Gill is one of the more improved players in the QMJHL this season, playing big minutes as a right handed defenseman for Rimouski this season. There were a lot of red flags surrounding his defensive abilities as a whole but he has really improved in his gap control and positioning this season. Furthermore, Gill has taken a big step offensively by refining his breakout/transition game while using his large frame to shield defenders during his activations. Also, he has improved his breakout passes both on his forehand and backhand. Still seen as a project, Gill has officially arrived as an intriguing RHD with efficient transition tools.
