Western Semifinal Nightly Recap

2022-05-15

Western Semifinal

Anaheim Ducks - 1 @ Arizona Coyotes - 3

  • Arizona wins series 4-2

In a sense, after their series win against the Ducks, the Coyotes are heading home.

No, not back to Arizona. To Winnipeg, where this franchise began 50 years ago. We all know the history now. The OG Jets packed up and moved down south. Then Winnipeg was gifted with the Jets 2.0. Now it's old vs. new and one of them will advance to the Stanley Cup FInal.

After scoring the OT winner in Game 5, Derek Grant came up big again. He gave the 'Yotes the lead midway through the first period. Scott Laughton responded in the second period for the Ducks,

But it was all Arizona in the third, specifically Kevin Labanc. In a period the Coyotes dominated, Labanc scored his 5th and 6th goals of the playoffs. The first of those ended up being the game-winner.

Connor Hellebuyck wasn't tested often, but made the saves he needed to when required. That included a quiet third period when he only faced 6 shots. He finished the night with 24 saves and .960 SP%.

During their season series, the Coyotes had a 2-1 record against the Jets. That included a 8-1 drubbing of Winnipeg at the MTS Center. Johnny Gaudrea had 5 points that night with Nico Hischier adding 4. They'll hope to refind that form when they faceoff against a Jets side that has really started rolling in these playoffs as of late.
