Playoff Post-Mortem, Edmonton Oilers

2022-05-10

Series Summary

Another back and forth series that went the distance. The Coyotes managed to stave off elimination at home in game 6 and then close the series out in game 7. This was generally a low scoring series, with under 4.5 total goals per game.

Who Showed Up

Evander Kane (2G / 4A) led the team in scoring, with Tomas Hertl also pitching in 5 points, including 4 goals. Juuse Saros (2.29 GAA, 0.923 SV%) was a rock in net.

Who Didn’t

The Oilers had trouble scoring from top to bottom, with only three players chipping in more than 3 points over the 7 game series. David Perron and Jordan Kyrou both played on their second line, but only managed a pair of assists each.

Offseason Preview: UFA

Edmonton has a handful of UFAs on their pro roster this offseason, with David Perron, Jeff Petry, Brayden McNabb, and Evan Rodrigues all hitting the open market. Rodrigues is the youngest of the four and had a good year in real-life Pittsburgh, and so could be an enticing option to sign.

Offseason Preview: Entry Draft

The Oilers are slated to select only 3 times in the upcoming draft, once each in the 2nd, 3rd, and 6th rounds. They traded away their 1st for this upcoming year for a trio of 2nd round picks in last year’s draft.

Offseason Preview: Expansion Draft

7 F: Alex Killorn, Chandler Stephenson, Evan Rodrigues, Tomas Hertl, Tom Wilson, Jordan Kyrou, Robby Fabbri

3 D: Alec Martinez, Shea Theodore, Jake Muzzin

1 G: Juuse Saros

Potentially Available: Alex Iafallo, David Perron, Evander Kane, Justin Holl, Scott Wedgewood
