Western Semifinal Nightly Recap

2022-05-09

Western Semifinal

Anaheim Ducks - 1 @ Arizona Coyotes - 3

  • Arizona leads series 2-1

Arizona's alpha male, Connor Hellebuyck, led his pack of Coyotes to another win to take a 2-1 series lead.

Hellebuyck held the high scoring Ducks offense to a single goal for the second game in a row. In both games the goals came while Arizona was shorthanded, otherwise Hellebuyck has been flawless. He hasn't allowed a 5-on-5 goal since Anaheim scored the overtime winner in Game 1.

Kevin Labanc scored twice for the 'Yotes, bringing his tally up to three in the series. Mathieu Perreault popped his second of the playoffs on a rare trip over the boards while Mike Hoffman had the Anaheim goal.

Winnipeg Jets - 1 @ Colorado Avalanche - 4

  • Winnipeg leads series 2-1

Colorado avoided falling behind 3-0 in their series against the powerhouse Jets with a 4-1 victory on home ice.

The Avs started slow with only 6 shots in the first, but peppered Tuukka Rask with 30 shots over the remaining periods. That led to a balanced scoring attack as 4 different skaters found the goal column. Frederik Gaudreau and Artturi Lehkonen potted their first goals of the series while Mitch Marner and Gabe Landeskog had the other goals. Marner and Landeskog now have 5 points each over the first three games. Tyler Bozak had the lone Jets goal.

Mike Smith was nearly flawless bar a Tyler Bozak goal early in the middle frame. He finished the night with 33 saves and .971 SP%.
