Eastern Quarterfinal Nightly Recap

2022-05-02

Eastern Quarterfinal

Philadephia Flyers - 3 @ Columbus Blue Jackets - 5

  • Columbus wins series 4-3

Columbus overcame a rough night in the crease by Marc-Andre Fleury and defeated Philadelphia in Game 7.

Fleury turned away 19 of 22 shots faced and posted an ugly .864 SP%, but it was enough as his counterpart at the other end of the ice fared worse. Martin Jones, whose goaltending has been shaky throughout the series, gave the Flyers a chance to win with above average goaltending through 40 minutes. The final 20 was a different story.

Columbus entered the third period trailing 3-2, but a three goal outburst was enough to seal the series win. Patrick Kane struck early on the powerplay and Max Pacioretty would score the eventual game-winner a few minutes later. Mika Zibanejad would add an empty netter for insurance at 18:53.

Undisciplined play didn't help Philadelphia in this one. They gave the Jackets 6 powerplays on the night and they capitalized on two of those. The Flyers had two goes on the man advantage but weren't able tp convert, only generating 1 shot.

With the win, Columbus will face New Jersey in the second round while Florida will take on the Islanders in the other matchup out East.
