Eastern Quarterfinal Nightly Recap

2022-04-28

Eastern Quarterfinal

New York Islanders - 3 @ Buffalo Sabres - 1

  • New York wins series 4-1

Buffalo never got it's offense and it cost them in a big way as they bowed out of the playoffs to the New York Islanders in 5 games.

Dustin Brown struck the 2nd period for his league leading 4th goal of the playoffs which held up as the game-winner. In typical Brown fashion he battled in front of the net with Will Carrier before corraling a lose puck and putting the puck past Jake Oettinger with just 3 seconds left in the period.

Buffalo managed a mere 9 goals throughout the series. They had four 20 goal scorers during the regular season (Mathew Barzal, Sam Reinhart, Chris Krieder, Joel Farabee). Farabee and Krieder each had a goal in the series.

Tampa Bay Lightning - 0 @ New Jersey Devils - 5

  • New Jersey leads series 3-2

The Devils lead this one wire-to-wire and are now a game away from heading to the second round.

Jacob Markstrom weathered the Lightning storm, especially in the second when he faced 18 shots, and was perfect for the shutout.

New Jersey went 2/3 on the powerplay and Dylan Larkin led the way offensively with 2 goals and 2 assists.

Philadelphia Flyers - 3 @ Columbus Blue Jackets - 2

  • Philadelphia leads series 3-2

The unheralded Flyers stole one at Nationwide Arena and head back to Philly with a chance to advance.

Just 30 seconds after Mika Zibanejad had tied the game for the Jackets, Tanner Jeannot snapped home his second goal of the game to retake the lead and quiet the hometown crowd. Columbus pressed hard for the equaliser but Martin Jones was up to the task to finish the game with 25 saves.
