Western Quarterfinal Nightly Recap

2022-04-21

Western Quarterfinals

Minnesota Wild - 1 @ Anaheim Ducks - 4

  • Anaheim leads series 1-0

The Western Conference quarters kicked off with Anaheim showing everyone why they were crowned Pacific Division champs by downing the plucky, wild card Minnesota Wild.
Undisciplined play led to the Wild giving up 5 powerplays to the Ducks, with Patrice Bergeron ultimately scoring the game winner on the PP in the 2nd period.
Anaheim held Sidney Crosby, had went 37-63-100 during the regular season, off the scoresheet. Minnesota will need to find a way to get it's offense going if they're going to get pucks past the Ducks trade deadline acquisition Tristan Jarry.

Arizona Coyotes - 3 @ Edmonton Oilers - 1

  • Arizona leads series 1-0

A sold out Rexall Place were sent home disappointed after the Arizona Coyotes pulled off the win in game 1 of their series versus the Oilers.

Connor Hellebuyck stood tall, stopping 28 of the 29 shots faced, and Vladimir Tarasenko sparked the offense with 2 goals on the night, capping it off with an insurance marked on the powerplay midway through the second period.

Dallas Stars - 3 @ Winnipeg Jets - 1

  • Dallas leads series 1-0

Chris Driedger spoiled opening night for the Presidents' Trophy winning Winnipeg Jets. Driedger, who earned the starting nod in game 1 over Robin Lehner, wasn't overly busy in this one but stopped more than his counterpart Tuuka Rask.
Alex DeBrincat wristed home the winner in the 3rd and Jack Eichel notched a pair with Kirill Kaprizov earning the primary on both goals.
The Jets Scott Mayfield left the game after appearing to injure his foot blocking a shot but should be alright to go for Game 2.

Colorado Avalanche - 3 @ Nashville Predators - 2

  • Colorado leads series 1-0

This one was great from start to finish between these two Central Division rivals. Jujhar Khaira emerged as the unlikely here for the Avs, netting what would end up being the game-winner on a redirect off a Colton Sissons shot.
Josh Bailey powered the offense for the Preds with both goals, while Phil Tomasino stepped up for the Avs with a goal and an assist. Ethan Bear was solid on the third pairing with TJ Brodie, blocking a team high 4 shots.
