BREAKING: The Florida Panthers acquires Trevor Zegras from the Capitals

2021-12-20

2021/12/20

The Florida Panthers have once again shocked the hockey world past Thursday as they announced they acquired the young sensation center Trevor Zegras from the Washington Capitals.

The Panthers also put their hands on veteran Zach Parise and the Flyers' 3rd round pick in the upcoming draft. They had to let go Pierre-Luc Dubois, Martin Necas and a 5th round pick in the trade.

Here's what PKayne, Florida Panthers' GM, had to say on the trade:

"It wasn't an easy decision to let go Dubois and Necas in that trade because they are great young players and great young men as well. But prior to the trade, they were both underachieving with a total of 8 points each. Martin Necas was going to be a restricted free agent after this season and was going to ask for a decent salary raise. Dubois has another season in the books at 4,000,000$ but then will also be a restricted free agent and ask for a huge pay check. We thought it was a great move for our franchise to trade them for Trevor Zegras who has hell of a ceiling. I think sky's the limit for him. Pretty sure he'll thrive in Miami. He actually already recorded a point (an assist) in his first game as a Panther (on a goal from his friend Cole Caufield) despite a limited usage from the coach. As for Zach Parise, he's a great veteran presence and we're confident he's gonna bring some leadership and he's gonna lead by example in front of our really young forward core!"

The Florida Panthers are now 12-9-8, 2 points away from a playoffs spot. Hopefully for them, Zegras and Parise will help them go on a streak and get in a more cozy position. And whatever the record is, fans are lucky to have such a show at every game with young guns like Cale Makar, Tim Stützle, Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield and now Trevor Zegras that are all 23 years old or younger. They'll be an exciting team to watch for years to come and more importantly, a treat season after season.

Stay tuned, more to come!
