A Look at the RHL Implications of the Canada 5 2024-01-25 Just wanted to take a quick look at the potential implications of a suspension for the rest of the season or an early retirement for these RHL teams. Carter Hart Team: Florida Panthers Current Rating: 82 Salary: 3 million dollars then RFA Rerate Potential: Probably slight drop after some injuries Implications: Carter Hart is a big loss for any team don’t get me wrong. But if there was a franchise that would not be completely thrown by losing a starting goaltender it would be Florida. They have a very team friendly deal (4X2.25) with Sam Montembeault who is having an even better season than last year and is rated among some of the top goalies in the league. Louis Domingue will not be able to be the backup next year unless some injuries happen soon to the Rangers goalie tandem but Florida can snag a backup elsewhere. Alex Formenton Team: N/A Current Rating: N/A Salary: N/A Rerate Potential: N/A Implications: Nothing Dillon Dube Team: Toronto Maple Leafs Current Rating: 69 Salary: 3 million dollars this year and next, then RFA Rerate Potential: Steep decline Implications: Dube was probably not in the Leafs plans for the future as he was having a terrible season. He will be rerated significantly lower and his contract was already kind of a sunk cost. I’d expect to see him on the waiver wire after the season and that’ll be that. Conclusion – Not much of an impact Michael McLeod Team: Toronto Maple Leafs Current Rating: 65 Salary: 2.2 million then RFA Rerate Potential: Some increase Implications: Toronto could probably have used Michael McLeod next season as a 4th liner and if he was signed around the 1.4 million he is making in the NHL he probably would be worth it but by no means is he a cornerstone of the franchise. Easily replaceable. Cal Foote Team: Minnesota Wild Current Rating: 63 Salary: 1.2 million dollars then RFA Rerate Potential: Probably decrease Implications: He’s an AHL defenseman. He definitely was not going to be important next season. Maybe in the season after, Foote might have made a difference assuming he plays in the 24-25 season and was signed to a longer term deal but I doubt it. Little to no impact.
