Goodbye Krejci, It's Been Nice

2022-06-08

COLUMBUS, OH - With the conclusion of the 2021-22 season also comes the end of an era in Columbus… the David Krejci era is over. Krejci captained the team for several seasons with his most memorable season in 2019 when he brought the Stanley Cup home to Columbus centering the team’s top line. As one of his favorite players in the NHL, Jackets general manager MixtureBill sought out Krejci early in his tenure with the organization. In a trade long forgotten the team has played them in their top 6 for as long as they can remember. Krejci was also quickly given the C and has worn it for several seasons with the Jackets.

And while it has been noted that this was an unimpressive offensive season for the Jackets, Krejci was still able to lead the team in scoring in his final season, putting up 65 points, with 22 goals and 43 assists. And if this is it, it’s not a bad final regular season for the longtime captain. However even though he led the team in scoring during the regular season, Krejci would certainly like his final playoffs appearances to be forgotten. Shuffled between wing and center as the Jackets tried to juggle their lines to find chemistry in the playoffs, Krejci was only able to muster 4 points in 13 games, with only one of those coming in the form of a goal. It’s not a performance that the fans will remember him for, and it’s not one that Jackets general manager will hold against him as several players didn’t live up to their offensive capabilities in the series.

It’s worth noting however that this might not be the end of the line for the veteran centerman, as he is still playing professionally in his home country of Czechia. There’s been rumors of Krejci possibly exploring a return to the Boston Bruins, and if David were ever to return to the RHL, you can be assured that the Blue Jackets would be one of his top suitors in free agency, not only for his skill, but also what he’s meant to the franchise’s history.

We’d like to wish David all the best in his post RHL career. We hope to see Krech back in a Jackets uniform one day, but for now, we’d like send him off with this simple song:

It was early mornin' yesterday

I was up before the dawn

And I really have enjoyed my stay

But Krejci must be movin' on

[Chorus]

Goodbye Krejci

It's been nice

Hope you find your

Paradise

Come tomorrow

Feel no pain

Feel no pain

Krejci

Krejci

Krejci

Krejci’'s goin' away

See ya

See ya, Krejci

See ya

Oh

[Outro]

Goodbye Krejci

Goodbye Krejci

Goodbye Krejci

Goodbye Krejci
