Playoff Post-Mortem, Colorado Avalanche

2022-05-26

Series Summary

The Presidents Trophy winning Jets dispatched of their division rival in a gentleman’s sweep, storming out to a 3-0 lead in game 1 and never looking back.

Who Showed Up

The Avalanche got big playoff performances from Mitch Marner, Filip Forsberg, and Gabriel Landeskog, all of whom put up a point per game or better in the team’s 10 playoff games.

Who Didn’t

After posting a sparkling 0.942 save percentage in Round 1, Mike Smith faltered, posting only a 0.870 over the first four games of the series before ultimately seeing Jonathan Quick take over his net for the final game of the series.

Offseason Preview: UFA

Colton Sissons and Mike Smith are the only two pending UFAs on the pro roster, and with Jonathan Quick under contract next year and Vitek Vanecek needing a new RfA deal, it seems likely that Smith could be on his way to the open market.

Offseason Preview: Entry Draft

The Avalanche own 6 picks in the first 3 rounds, including their own and San Jose’s 1st which they received for Johnny Gaudreau last summer. That San Jose pick gives them the 5th best odds at winning the upcoming draft lottery.
