Playoff Post-Mortem, Dallas Stars

2022-05-11

Series Summary

A tightly contested series down to the wire that came down to an overtime goal scored by the Jets’ Mattias Ekholm to send the Stars home. The Presidents’ Trophy winners were one goal away from a first round exit at the hands of their Central Division rivals.

Who Showed Up

Kirill Kaprizov (3G / 3A) and Jesper Bratt (3G / 3A) led the Stars in scoring, while Crhis Driedger (1.88 GAA / 0.934 SV%) was rock solid behind the Stars.

Who Didn’t

Ryan Murray played on the Stars’ first pair and was a -6 for the series, only contributing a single goal, which came in the Stars’ 3-1 loss in Game 2.

Offseason Preview: UFA

The Stars have four UFAs on their Pro roster this offseason, Joe Pavelski, Calvin de Haan, Robin Lehner, and Blake Coleman. On top of that, Kirill Kaprizov is owed a new RFA deal. With Driedger’s standout performance starting all seven games of the first round, it seems unlikely that Lehner will return. Perhaps they look to lock down purported playoff specialist Blake Coleman?

Offseason Preview: Entry Draft

The Stars have done a good job of stockpiling late picks, even while trading away their 1st and 3rd for pending UFA Joe Pavelski. They currently own 10 picks, with 7 of those in the 5th or later.

The Offseason Preview: Expansion Draft

7 F: Jesper Bratt, Alex DeBrincat, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, William Nylander, Jack Eichel, Blake Coleman

3 D: Jared Spurgeon, Philippe Myers, Ryan Murray

1 G: Chris Driedger

Potentially Available: Joe Pavelski, Kyle Okposo, Cody Eakin, Anton Stralman, Alex Edler, Robin Lehner

Great article! I'm not sure Dallas is ready to let Pavelski leave, and rumors are he wants to come back and chase a ring
