OTTAWA, ON

Exciting news emerged in Ottawa last week when rumors started circling that the Senators were in talks to bring back former captain Evgeni Malkin. This speculation was later confirmed when GM Noddan announced last Monday that the team had acquired Malkin's UFA rights from the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for a third round pick in this year's draft. It's not known whether Malkin and the Sens have come to an agreement on the contract terms, but given the history between both parties it's not hard to imagine those details will be released soon.

Malkin, who turns 40 next month, has aged like fine wine and continues to play at an elite level. He put up 44 points in 69 games with LA last year plus 9 points in 12 playoff games. Prior to his stint with the Kings, Malkin played 253 regular season and playoff games with Ottawa, leading the team with 72 goals and 205 points in the three years with recorded data. He also provided consistent leadership as team captain for this period, a crucial contribution with the recent departures of Anze Kopitar and Jordan Staal. Look for Malkin to feature on Ottawa's first line next season as the team looks to bounce back from a disappointing season that saw them on the outside of the playoff picture.
