Year in Review.
2026-06-29This year has been awful in hockey for many reasons. Here are the top 10.
#10 Boston giving up on Fabian Lysell. Trading him for Ivan Ivan, stings stings. Lysell was a highly touted 1st round pick. Ivan went undrafted.
#9 The narrative of Taylor Hall scoring the game winnign goal for the cup, along with Brandon Bussi getting a shutout. As a Bruins fan, I don't care much that Hall spent time as a Bruin and we let him go. He was not a game changer. However, losing Bussi stings. There seems to be a parade of goalies that are being developped in the Bruins system, and then never making an impact in the NHL for Boston, but becoming starters elsewhere. The same thing is happening with Daniel Vladar. Maybe this is what we get for the Andrew Raycroft trade...
#8 I didn't do my yearly playoff pool. Every year we do an in person draft for players for our points pool. I have had Carolina on my radar a couple of times in the passed couple of years. Had I drafted a team, Carolina would have been my prime east target, and thus I would have been likely to win, or at least come second. Instead I opted to not hold the draft as I had to travel to Windsor for my grandfather's funeral. (RIP Papa (L) ).
#7 My loss to Brrr. That guy is a jerk.
#6 Boston drafting a goalie in the 2nd round. Their highest pick of the draft was spent on a goalie. Awful. Projected to be drafted in the 6th or 7th round? Awfuller. Don Sweeney most likely moving on from Dipietro? Awfullest. Oh, and then drafted another goalie in the 6th round? Awfullerest?
#5 My pick of Alessandro Di Iorio at #54 being real life #94. While perhaps not my biggest blunder of all time, (Graeme Clarke anyone? Serron Noel for sale?) the worst part was I was completely sober for this one. My pick of Ignaviticus was just taken off the table and I panicked. I didn't notice Ryder Cali was available. After already choosing Markus Ruck as a slight reach, (taken at 22 but real life #39 isn't toooooo awfullerest) this draft has not been my best.
#4 Boston trading 2 firsts for Peterka. While it remains to be seen whether the trade was a good one or not, a month ago I was excited for Boston to have 2 firsts this year, now we have none.
#3 Ilya Lyubushkin, I hate you. You suck.Undeniably suck. Why does he suck? Because I added him for blocks in the championship week of fantasy hockey. He then when Day to day with an injury hours later. He was a wasted add. Had I added one of the other D-men with a high percentage of blocks per game, I would have won. I ended up losing by 4 blocks, and losing the championship 7-6.
#2 RBK winning the RHL championship. How in the world could RBK have won the cup? There is only one logical, understandable reason why RBK managed to win his first title, after years of failed effort. He is sleeping with Simon T.
#1 Toronto winning the lottery draft is possibly the most aggravating thing that could have happened. Not only are Toronto fans intolerable, they now have another reason to be overly optimistic. The league rigged the draft. It is fixed. That would have bee nthe worst part of hockey this year on its own. The kicker is that it made Boston's acquired first deferred to next year. We thought we were going to get another top ten talent to inject into the roster. Instead we have another 1st overall rival.
