Blackhawks hire GM Schurman

2023-07-02

The Chicago Blackhawks have hired Ryan Schurman to be the clubs new GM.  The Veteran GM brings 25 years experience of running hockey teams and leagues.

"I'm excited to be here and get this franchise back on track to being a competitive team and eventually one of the best teams in the league.  There are alot of good players here, veterans and younger players.  I have taken alot of time to asses all assets of our organization.  There are alot of prospects that need fresh starts and I wanna put my own stamp on this club.  Move out players or prospects to get who I really like or faces i know of more.  We need to do a re tool and maybe a little rebuild too here in Chicago. But there are already some good young pieces here that are in place for a good start to this process" Says Schurman.

Didn't take long to start getting some trades talks going as Schurman as just finished making his 5th Trade since taking over.

IN:  J.Campbell, A.Schmid, R.Stome (UFA rights), V.Desharnais, 3rd 2024, 4th 2023, 5th 2023, 5th 2023

OUT:  Delandrea, Skarek, Lehner.  Prospects: Meehan, Tuch, Villeneavue, Abruzusse, Edstrom, Gylander, Kokkonen, Fensore, 7th 2024, 5th 2023

"We had no goalies ready to play this upcoming season and needed some help for the future of this club.  We believe Schmid is very close to being a regular starter in the league.  We like his potential moving foward as our Goalie of the future.  Dylan Garand who we have as well, will be there too.  We are starting to like the looks of our goalies.  Jack Campbell comes in to split or fight for the #1 job with Schmid this season.  Hoping Campbell can bounce back and have a better Season as well.  We didn't mind giving up what we did for getting him for a couple seasons to see if he can regain his form.  As for Strome, we shipped Dellandrea to improve in Net.  Now we bring in Strome to replace the foward in the top 6.  Strome is not signed yet, but i put in a solid offer, i'm not worried about getting him signed up in Chicago.   Desharnais will help our Defence corpse out this season.  I got rid of some prospects that needed to be moved out and now can draft some new ones in there place in the next couple seasons. Like I said, putting my stamp on this team.  Not done yet"  Says Schurman

The Blackhawks would also like to take this time to Wish Ryan Getzlaf a happy retirement.  Also best of evertything for Jesse Puljujarvi, who was bought out of his contract penalty free. New rule that allows, new gm 1 free buyout penalty free upon joining.  With both these player out of the line up it clears over 15 Million in salary.  Hawks have money to make some moves or be active in free agency this year.  If not much around this year, there is always next year as well to add some impactful players.
